Merchant FAQs

Answers to common merchant questions about using IdLayer in Shopify checkout.

What does IdLayer verify?

IdLayer supports identity, age, and NFC document verification at checkout. You can choose the verification flow that matches your compliance requirements.

Where does verification happen for the customer?

Customers start verification from checkout and complete it in a secure hosted flow opened in a new tab. Once finished, checkout updates automatically with the result.

Does IdLayer block checkout until verification is complete?

Yes. If verification is required for the current checkout, the customer must complete a successful verification before payment is unlocked.

Can staff approve or decline manually?

Yes. If a session is pending or needs review, staff can approve or decline it from the IdLayer Admin session detail view.

What gets saved in the verification audit trail?

Each session stores key metadata including session status, timestamps, customer email (when available), provider decision data, and copies of verification images when captured.

Are customer images and data retained if the verification provider expires links?

Yes. IdLayer copies images into private merchant-scoped storage so records stay available even if provider-hosted URLs expire.

How are verified customers marked in Shopify?

When verification succeeds, IdLayer can tag the customer as idlayer:verified, making it easy to build segments and trigger Shopify Flow automations.

Is merchant data isolated between stores?

Yes. Data is scoped by shop domain, and one merchant cannot access another merchant's verification records.

How can I remove merchant data?

You can request deletion at any time by contacting support. On uninstall, IdLayer also processes Shopify redact webhooks to remove associated merchant data.

Who should I contact for support?

Please contact [email protected] for onboarding help, compliance questions, or troubleshooting.
